At 6.00p.m. on Tuesday 17th July 2012, twenty one members and visitors met Andrew Grout, the Gardening Head of Woburn Abbey Gardens at the entrance to the Sculture Gallery. Andrew gave us a brief history of the gardens before conducting the group on a guided tour of the gardens, buildings and structures which lasted for 2.45 hours. The group visited certain areas which are off limit to the general public, i.e the Chinese Dairy. The tour was excellant and the description/commentary was both informative and interesting. Luckily the weather was very kind to us, and although overcast at times no rain fell and it was pleasantly warm. In some of the pictures sculptures can be seen, the majority of these are part of an art display/sale and are not owned by Woburn, but probably their price seemed out of our reach. (The girl on a swing was probably my favourite but it was priced at £27,500.00p.).
Our thanks go to Andrew Grout for looking after us and making the tour so enjoyable. Also special thanks to Rowena who organised the event at short notice. The planning was very good, and the group had a very enjoyable evening which makes a change from sitting inside the house and watching the rain.
